Torrance, June 23, 2008 - The Al-Ameen Foundation awards the Center for Global Understanding (CFGU) with a $50,000 grant to be used towards the Muslim American leadership development program at CFGU. The grant will provide scholarships for Muslim American college students selected to intern in Washington D.C. at various government agencies and NGO’s. Scholarship recipients will be chosen through a competitive process administered by CFGU and The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC). This new partnership will provide CFGU students the opportunity for civic engagement, professional achievement and leadership development in Washington, D.C. The first group of CFGU students will participate in the Spring 2009 Semester. The Al-Ameen Foundation, based out of Santa Monica, California was founded by the late Mr. Ahmad Adaya, a well-known real estate tycoon and philanthropist. Mr. and Mrs. Ahmad and Amina Adaya have been major supporters of educational and art programs in the United States for over twenty years. “We want our young people to learn early on about the democratic process, its relevance to their lives and the importance of active participation," said Amina Adaya. The Center for Global Understanding is a national non-advocacy, non-profit organization based in Torrance, California. One of its major goals is to cultivate the next generation of Muslim American Leaders through its Washington D.C. Internship program. |
